I typically have around 20 exquisite, high-end grand pianos available at any given time. When people call, they’re often surprised to learn that I don’t have a traditional showroom. I’ve explored the idea, but the costs are simply too high—I’d have to add at least $5,000 to the price of each piano just to cover expenses. So, do I have a massive house filled with pianos? Not quite—though I do keep a few at home.
Instead, I’ve developed a unique approach that has worked beautifully for years: my neighborhood is my showroom. I call it my Foster-a-Steinway program. I live in a close-knit community where my neighbors not only know each other but also appreciate fine pianos. Many of them have generously agreed to host a Steinway until it finds its new owner. When you come to audition pianos, we take a walk around the neighborhood! This keeps costs low while allowing you to experience these remarkable instruments in real home settings—just like yours.
Some of my neighbors have hosted seven or eight pianos over time. One friend, who has welcomed several 9’ Steinway concert grands into his home, once said, “It’s like getting a different luxury sports car to drive every few months!” Every now and then, customers ask if they can host a piano instead of buying one. My answer? If you’re willing to move into my neighborhood, I’ll consider it! In fact, one of my host families has expressed interest in purchasing a Steinway concert grand, but I keep joking that I can’t afford to let them buy it—their living room is just too valuable as a showroom space!
If you’d like to visit my one-of-a-kind neighborhood showroom and you’re coming from outside Utah, I’m located about 40 minutes from Salt Lake City International Airport. I’m happy to pick you up and, in many cases, you can depart the same day. Or, if you’d like to stay a little longer, you can explore some of the incredible sights Utah has to offer.
